Abia Government to Pay Salary Arrears in Tranches


The Abia state government has announced plans to pay salary arrears owed to civil servants in tranches. According to Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Mike Akpara, the government inherited a debt of N16.5 billion in salary arrears owed workers in state-owned institutions of learning.


Payment Schedule

Payment of salary arrears to commence in July or August

Payments to be made in installments to avoid hampering progress in other sectors of the economy

Goal to complete payments by the end of the year


Institutions Affected

Abia State University (ABSU)

College of Education, Arochukwu

College of Health Sciences

Abia State Polytechnic, Aba

Abia State University Teaching Hospital


Progress So Far

Salary arrears for April and May have been paid to ABSU workers

Verification exercises to be continued to restore sanity in the civil service


Loan Facilities

No loan facilities have been applied for by the present administration

Previous administration had initiated loan requests from Africa Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank

Loans have not been released to the government, and resources are being managed effectively.
